New Music Monday - Lauren Daigle, Josh Baldwin, and more!

This past week we added a wide variety of music to our countdowns and overall music rotation, but by far the biggest addition was Lauren Daigle’s Rescue. This latest single is sure to be another success in a string of radio hits from Lauren Daigle’s latest album Look Up Child, which recently set the record for most weeks at #1 on Billboard’s Top Christian Albums chart. Her record 39 weeks at #1 dethroned Switchfoot’s album The Beautiful Letdown, which stayed atop the chart for 38 weeks in 2004-2005. With over 900,000 albums sold, Look Up Child is approaching platinum certification.

New to our rotation

“I will send out an army to find you
In the middle of the darkest night
It's true, I will rescue you
I will never stop marching to reach you
In the middle of the hardest fight
It's true, I will rescue you”

“So let the redeemed of the Lord say so
Sing of His promises ever more
Pour out your thankfulness, let it overflow
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so”

The 180remix Countdown

“Sometimes you lose, sometimes you win
You gotta get up, up again
Keep holding on, it's not the end
You gotta get up, up again”

“Wake up in the morning, gotta thank the Lord
Oh you still breathing? Gotta thank the Lord
Hands in the sky, gotta thank the Lord
Even when it's bad, imma thank the Lord”

The Stronghold

“My life was beaten and battered with no meaning
Barely breathing, falling to pieces
Stepped in the ring to face the hate
That’s when I heard a voice say
You will know my name
One life, one love, that’s all I really needed
One life, one love, thank you Jesus”

Joyful Suffering

In one of my recent morning quiet times I found my mind gravitating toward James’ words, “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into divers temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith works patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that you may be perfect and entire, lacking nothing.” (James 1:2-4) No sooner did those words come to mind when the words of Paul in Romans 8 started echoing in my ears. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God; to them who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He did foreknow; He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.” (vv 28-29)

What immediately preceded these words coming to mind was an overwhelming sense of weariness and self pity. Fatigued by the trials I was experiencing in my life, I was feeling sorry for myself and asking God to fix things. These struggles have been going on for quite some time and I was wondering why God wasn’t doing something about it. In exasperation, I have been known to pour out my complaint to the Lord, “God, you can fix this, so why aren’t you?!”

As I considered the message of those verses in my mind - placed there, I believe, by the Lord Himself, it occurred to me that the Lord was trying to show me that “I” was the one who needed “fixing”. It wasn’t the circumstances, it wasn’t other people, it was “me” - God was wanting to fix me. By my response to the circumstances I was finding myself in, it was clear that I was not acting like my savior Jesus. It had become all to easy to play the part of the victim and fail to see how God was trying to show me an area of my life He wanted to bring into conformity with His Son.

I believe, just like those verses declare, that is what God wants to do in all the trials we face. When the trials come, I believe the Lord would have me say, “Thank you, Lord for this trial because I know that, by it, you intend to show me an area of deficiency in my character. Help me not to resist your working in my life, but to yield to it and be shaped more into the image of Jesus.” I’ve heard others say God is not so much interested in our happiness as He is in our holiness; I think I have to agree with that statement.

So, from this day forward, I want to be one of those who considers suffering to be joyful. Not that the suffering itself is joyful, but what God is producing in my life through the suffering is more precious than gold. I hope you will choose to join me.

Devil on the Deck by Lois Hoadley Dick is a rugged, rollicking adventure about God’s amazing grace. John Newton, an able bodied seaman, knew well the life on the high seas – a life far removed from culture, civilization, and decency. It was a world where men were tough, and often crude and vile – where religion was only a formal prayer read by the captain on Sunday and where the Christian ideal was scorned. Yet this was where God’s merciful hand was at work in a sinful young man’s life.

In A Stranger for Christmas by Carol Lynn Pearson, two old ladies face a lonely Christmas in a California nursing home. One of them still believes in the goodness of people, and now she intends to prove it with a phone call to her children. As these two women put the true meaning of Christmas to the test, something completely unexpected happens. It may change their lives forever… just as it may change yours.

Author Bill Crowder invites you to join him in tracing Christ’s final hours walking with Him on The Path of His Passion, and come to a greater appreciation for the journey He took for you. As the author draws out the valuable lessons Christ taught along the way, he will encourage you to be more determined than ever to embrace the cross that Christ embraced for you.

Have the events of the Savior’s passion become overly familiar to you? See the death and resurrection of Christ through the eyes of those who were there! You can get a fresh perspective on the Easter story by reading Windows on Easter by Bill Crowder and looking through the “windows” of some of the people who were there: Malchus, Judas Iscariot, the centurion, Joseph of Arimathea, the women disciples, and the disciples on the Emmaus Road. As you see what these witnesses saw and feel what they felt, you will learn the life-transforming lessons that they learned.

I Am A Church Member by Thom S. Rainer seeks to remedy the outbreak of inactive or barely committed church members. It addresses - without apology - what is expected of those who join a body of believers. When a person's attitude is consistently biblical and healthy, matters of giving, serving, and so forth will fall into place more naturally and Rainer's practical work unpacks what that should look like.

Food & Faith, a spiritual growth mission study by Wendy Whiteside, is about how faith is nurtured, strengthened, and enhanced by food. It is also about all the ways food touches our lives. This study explores the ways food creates community, offers hospitality to strangers, and expands one’s concept of “neighbor”. The rituals of feasting and fasting remind us of our need for God. Above all Holy Communion, our most profound sacrament, is food.

The 180remix Countdown

Last Saturday night was full of new music! We saw three new songs added to the 180remix Countdown, although the first two had previously debuted on other countdowns:

“Every little thing is gonna be alright
Every little thing is gonna be just fine
Whether I can see it now
I know You will work it out for good
Every little thing, everything will be alright”

“I was a dead man walking
Until I was a man walking with You
I was a blind man falling
'Til I felt the life You're calling me to
Pulling me out of the darkness and
Pulling me out of the lies
Putting the beat in my heart again
I was a dead man walking
Until You loved this dead man walking back to life”

“Even if the drum stops beating
My soul will keep on singing
Even louder, even louder
Even when my eyes can't see it
I will sing 'til I believe it
Even louder, even louder”

The Stronghold

New music on KCMI’s Christian rock countdown is coming from Relentless Flood!

“So I fall to my knees
Crying Lord won’t you please
Set me free, set me free
God I give You all of me
Take this heart and make it clean
Set me free, set me free”

In the Company of Grumblers

Think back to a time you found yourself in the presence of a grumbler, a complainer. Maybe it was a single individual or a group of people. Did you feel the tug to join in with your own complaints?

I have to feel sorry for Moses. Here was a man who was given a job from the Lord that he, frankly, did not want. You remember how the Lord called him to go to Pharaoh and tell him to let God’s people go. The people Moses led out of Egypt were a grumbling, complaining lot. In Numbers chapter 20, it appears that Moses was fed up with it. “The people contended with Moses and spoke, saying: ……… ‘Why have you brought up the assembly of the Lord into this wilderness, that we and our animals should die here?’” (verses 3-4)

Moses was, continually, the recipient of the peoples’ grumblings. On one occasion his response was, “Who am I that you grumble against me? Your grumblings aren’t against me, but against God.” (My paraphrase) Moses was simply doing what God told him to do and the people were not pleased with it.

In response to the grumblers in Numbers chapter 20, the Lord tells Moses to take his rod and his brother Aaron and speak to the rock and it would bring forth water for the people to drink. So, Moses and Aaron gathered the people together at the rock and Moses said, “Hear now, you rebels! Must we bring water for you out of this rock?” and then Moses struck the rock twice. The Lord was displeased with Moses because he did not believe the Lord or treat Him as holy before the people (verse 12).

Nothing in Moses’ words to the people or his actions pointed them to the Lord as the one who would provide the water they craved. What if he had responded like this, “Why are you grumbling at me? Who am I? Your grumblings aren’t against me, but against God. But that you may know that the Lord is your provider and that your grumblings have come up to His ears and that your sins are great in His eyes”…..and then Moses turns to the rock and says, “Bring forth water.”

But alas, Moses chose to respond with his own grumbling. As I pondered that, I wondered, “Do I do that?” In 1 Corinthians chapter 10, we’re told that the things we read about the Israelites in God’s Word were written down for our instruction (verse 6) and that we should not be complainers as they were (verse 10).

And now I return to the question I asked at the beginning, “Do I join in the grumblings of others or do I respond in a way that brings honor to the Lord and treats Him as His holiness deserves?” Many of us will have opportunities, maybe even today, to respond differently and point others to the Lord. Will you seize that opportunity? Will I?

Lord, help us to resist the temptation to join with the grumblers and, instead, point others to you. In Jesus name, Amen.
